Chapter 4
His Highness's Jealousy
Two books: one titled "Love in the Moonlight"—a folk fiction work telling the story of a troubled romance between General Su Xiuming and the Prime Minister's eldest daughter, Meng Die. The second was "A Thousand Lifetimes Only for You"—also a legendary book about the touching love story between a Prince Regent and a female divine physician.
Both were moving stories of love and marital happiness that had brought tears to many.
A few hours later...
By now, evening had arrived. Dinglun was still in the study, engrossed in reading. Flipping through "A Thousand Lifetimes Only for You," he silently read each word:
— "My lady! You cannot escape!" The Prince Regent leaned close to her, speaking dominantly. His handsome face, every feature perfect. That smile made the young divine physician's heart flutter and skip a beat. The two exchanged glances, as if exchanging a destiny ordained by heaven. How beautiful their love was!
Pausing for a moment, he flipped to the end of the page and continued reading:
— Blood... blood was flowing incessantly, unable to be stopped. The Prince Regent was in critical condition. In the moment of urgency, she made a deal with a demon, a life for a life. She was willing to sacrifice herself to find the medicinal catalyst to cure him. "As long as you are alright, I am willing to trade." Her final words before departing, two rows of tears fell, shining like spiritual pearls. From then on, her soul was forever imprisoned by the demon...
After finishing the sad ending, Dinglun couldn't help but sigh:
— Is there truly someone in this world willing to sacrifice themselves for the one they love like that?
His heart, for some reason, throbbed with pain, as if he could feel that ultimate agony... something he had never understood before. Perhaps partly because he now had someone in his heart...
While he was lost in thought, the Northern Guard entered, interrupting his musings:
— "Your Highness, Your Highness!"
Seeing his subordinate, he quickly closed the book, appearing as calm as ever, and asked:
— "What is it?"
The Northern Guard excitedly boasted:
— "Have you heard? Your sister-in-law's shop is famous!"
Dinglun didn't believe it, curled his lip, and replied coldly:
— "Famous? To say her shop is famous on one street corner is possible. But you say in just half a day it's famous throughout the entire vast Capital? How could that be?"
As if realizing something, he stopped. "Could it be some big character...?"
Just as he thought this, the Northern Guard spoke quickly:
— "You don't know? The Eighth Prince stood up to invest. Thanks to his reputation, the Hua Shan Tea shop became famous quickly! Currently, many young masters and ladies from noble families love the refreshments at the shop. The first day's orders have reached several thousand. The Eighth Prince is also opening many small branches in other cities, soon to be operational."
The Northern Guard told the story enthusiastically without noticing that Dinglun's face was clearly unhappy. His entire being exuded a gloomy aura. The key point here was the words "Eighth Prince."
He immediately understood the issue: "Sister-in-law and Xiao Jing couldn't possibly know the Eighth Prince. So the person behind the scenes arranging this can only be one..."
His phoenix eyes narrowed, and his hand slammed onto the table, unable to hide his anger. Not knowing what he was angry about, he muttered:
— "Very well! This Prince's reputation is no less than the Eighth Prince's. I'm sitting right here and you don't pay attention, yet you run off to that Eighth Prince!"
The Northern Guard tried to listen closely but got nothing. And of course, that cold face, added to the expression of annoyance, caused the surrounding atmosphere to change abruptly, becoming unusually silent. A storm was brewing.
The feeling was indescribably suffocating. The Northern Guard stood at a distance, his legs trembling uncontrollably and sweat pouring out. He was racking his brain to see what he had done wrong: "Did I say something wrong just now? Why did His Highness's expression suddenly become so angry?"
As he thought, he prayed to the gods that nothing would happen. One must know that when Prince An is angry, others find it hard to survive. In the camp, all generals under his command had to undergo extremely rigorous tests and selections. Once a mistake was made, the punishment was very severe. Therefore, one could provoke heaven and earth but could not provoke Prince An. How many people like Shi Yi dared to speak face-to-face with him? It was understandable why others gave him the nickname "Cold-blooded and Heartless."
After a moment, he withdrew that expression, casually waving his hand to signal the Northern Guard to leave. He himself instinctively looked out the window. From here, one could clearly see the large main gate of the Prince An Manor. Every now and then, he would glance over there. It wasn't hard to see he was waiting for someone...
Faintly in the distance, the figures of two women entered through the door. It was indeed her. The one skipping ahead was Xiao Jing, with Shi Yi following step by step, her long silky black hair flowing down.
His gaze didn't leave her for a single step. Watching the sky, the earth, and the clouds, in the end, he was still watching her return.
— "Sister Shi Yi, we are cooperating with the Eighth Prince, will Brother Luân..."
Knowing the girl's thoughts, she lightly placed her hand on Xiao Jing's shoulder and said:
— "Rest assured, he won't. After all, the discord between the An family and the Wu clan won't drag outsiders like us into it. He won't be so petty as to hold it against us. The Eighth Prince is also a good person; if the two of them interact more, who knows, they might even become soulmates."
With those reassuring words, Xiao Jing felt somewhat at ease. Still seeing the slightly worried look in the girl's eyes, she added more.
