Chapter 5
New Patient
There was nothing behind?
Shen Yu quickly recalled the eleventh rule of Yangguang Welfare Institute, a rule discovered by the people themselves. So, were the missing rules in the caretaker's manual here for them to discover on their own?
Before Shen Yu could think much, the room door was knocked again. Shen Yu had no choice but to put down the worker's manual, stand up, and open the door. What appeared before him was the Head Nurse's face.
"I've contacted the other side to arrange a new patient. You clean up the room properly and wait for him to arrive," the Head Nurse said, holding a notebook and a pen, writing something as she spoke to Shen Yu.
Shen Yu subtly glanced at her notebook, and she noticed him. She pulled the notebook back and looked at Shen Yu, who leaned against the door and smiled innocently at her.
"Head Nurse, the patient has arrived." Shen Yu's attention was focused on the Head Nurse. Hearing a voice from the side, he tilted his head and saw someone slowly approaching.
It was two female nurses leading a patient.
Shen Yu frowned when he saw the patient.
Xie Tu? Xie Tu?!
Shen Yu's pupils contracted slightly, clearly surprised.
"Name." The Head Nurse didn't waste words and immediately began registering patient information.
Xie Tu wore patient clothes, and it felt as if his entire being and nature were bound within this attire, making him look constrained and uncomfortable. Shen Yu looked at his disdainful demeanor, yet he still had to obediently answer the Head Nurse's questions, which seemed a little funny.
"Xie Tu," Xie Tu replied.
The Head Nurse recorded the name and asked, "Age."
Xie Tu then said, "My information is in the file; handle it well after you've seen it."
For some reason, after Xie Tu said that, the Head Nurse gave him a meaningful look, then tore off the page with Xie Tu's name, "Alright, I understand."
"This is the caretaker responsible for you. You two get acquainted first." The Head Nurse stopped talking to Xie Tu. She turned to Shen Yu and instructed him.
Shen Yu felt a little strange. Xie Tu's reappearance here was already very odd, and now he had become the patient Shen Yu had to care for. How should he put it? Mainly because he had once kissed Xie Tu.
Xie Tu, however, showed no expression. His deep eyes looked towards Shen Yu, seemingly waiting for his answer.
"Yes, alright, I understand." Shen Yu obediently bowed to the Head Nurse. The Head Nurse nodded and then led the two nurses away.
Shen Yu pursed his lips, opened the door a little wider, and then gestured to Xie Tu, "Mr. Xie, please come in."
Xie Tu then lifted his foot and entered the patient room. Shen Yu followed. He looked at the hospital bed, which wasn't very clean, so he called out to him, "Mr. Xie, please wait a moment."
Xie Tu indeed stopped. He turned his head to look at Shen Yu, wondering what he wanted to say or do. Shen Yu immediately walked to the large cabinet nearby, opened it, and took out a clean set of bed sheets to change.
"Alright, you can go rest." Shen Yu said to Xie Tu with his hands on his hips and a relaxed expression. A faint smile lingered on his brows, looking very attractive.
Xie Tu's Adam's apple bobbed, "Okay."
He lay down on the bed, seemingly like a robot executing commands. He was an NPC, so it was normal, Shen Yu thought.
He felt a little regretful; after all, he truly liked Xie Tu's face, as if it had been sculpted bit by bit according to his preferences.
"Mr. Xie, if you feel uncomfortable anywhere, you can tell me. I'll be sleeping over there." Shen Yu pointed to a rather narrow single bed not far away. Clearly, every caretaker had to be on duty beside their patient.
Xie Tu pulled the blanket over his head, not answering Shen Yu. Shen Yu didn't do useless things; if Xie Tu ignored him, he wouldn't say much either.
He walked to the window and looked outside. Dusk was falling, and the sky was already darkening. Shen Yu remembered the Head Nurse had mentioned dinner, right?
Indeed, Shen Yu didn't wait long before he heard the bell outside. The Head Nurse's voice echoed through the corridor, "Dinner time, all caretakers please bring your patients to the east dining hall on the first floor."
Shen Yu, who was originally sitting at the table reading the caretaker's manual, heard the Head Nurse's voice and instinctively turned to look at Xie Tu, only to meet his indifferent face. Xie Tu frowned, then rolled over.
Shen Yu couldn't help but chuckle, stuffing the notebook deep into the drawer. Then he stood up and walked to the bed, "Mr. Xie, it's dinner time."
Xie Tu's hand gripped the corner of the blanket, revealing half of his head. Facing Shen Yu, his eyes held a scrutinizing look, "Mm."
Shen Yu then took a jacket from the rack and offered it to Xie Tu. He held the jacket open, waiting for Xie Tu to put his arms in. Unexpectedly, Xie Tu snatched the jacket, then suddenly said very unnaturally, "I, I'll put it on myself."
His speech was hesitant. Shen Yu remembered that when he met him during the day, his calm demeanor was completely different from now.
He didn't say much, leading Xie Tu out the door. Outside, Yu Cheng Yi also happened to be leaving his room. He first saw Shen Yu, then enthusiastically greeted him, "Shen Yu! How are you doing!"
Shen Yu nodded, "I'm fine."
Immediately after, Xie Tu stepped out from the door. Yu Cheng Yi's jaw almost dropped to the ground, "Holy cow! Xie... Xie Tu!"
Xie Tu frowned, his eyes showing a hint of displeasure. Yu Cheng Yi immediately covered his mouth.
Shen Yu gently tugged Xie Tu's sleeve, speaking to ease the tense atmosphere between the two, "It's dinner time, let's go."
Yu Cheng Yi dared not hesitate for a moment and sheepishly followed.
Xie Tu lowered his eyes to look at Shen Yu's hand, saw Shen Yu let go, then crossed his arms, saying, "It's normal for him to be surprised. After all, we just met not long ago, and now we meet again."
Shen Yu said it casually, but to Xie Tu, he was speaking up for Yu Cheng Yi.
Xie Tu couldn't help but frown, then snorted coldly and walked away, leaving only a huff in place. Shen Yu: ?
——
The hospital dining hall was quite high-end, and the food was also very delicious. Clearly, the hospital took good care of its patients.
Shen Yu asked Xie Tu about his diet, then went to the counter to get food. Shen Yu found that Xie Tu's taste was quite similar to his own.
Sitting down next to Xie Tu, Shen Yu felt that Xie Tu seemed to stiffen slightly.
Yu Cheng Yi brought the patient he was caring for to eat. Shen Yu noticed that the ten patients here seemed to have no major problems; their complexions were just not very good, but their body movements were all fine.
Shen Yu didn't know if he could ask about their illnesses, so he hadn't spoken much to anyone about it yet.
He coughed a few times, and Yu Cheng Yi suddenly said, "You tell me, to have someone who looks more like a patient than the patient themselves taking care of a patient, it's truly..."
"How so?" Shen Yu sipped a mouthful of porridge, tilting his head to ask him.
Yu Cheng Yi seriously said, "It's truly worse than beasts."
Shen Yu gave a helpless smile. Yu Cheng Yi enthusiastically continued, "Aren't you sick? Do you think the medicine here would work for you too?"
"Probably not..." Shen Yu replied.
"No." Xie Tu suddenly put down the spoon in his hand, then very seriously said, "Medicine, here, he cannot eat."
"Don't, harm him." Xie Tu frowned.
"I didn't want to harm him! I was just concerned, you know?!" Yu Cheng Yi was on the verge of tears.
"Don't talk anymore, Xie Tu, you eat first." Shen Yu picked a shrimp from his bowl and put it in Xie Tu's.
Xie Tu stared at the shrimp, saying nothing.
Yu Cheng Yi also remained silent. He had already felt that this Xie Tu came and went without a trace, and now he had come from Yangguang Welfare Institute to Alphard Hospital, which was certainly not simple.
He had to tell Shen Yu to be careful!
Dinner tonight went very smoothly. Taking the opportunity to get food for their patients together, Zhuang Jie reminded the newcomers to follow the rules in the caretaker's manual, after which no one said another word.
On the way back, while queuing to go upstairs on the first floor, Shen Yu noticed a man appearing at the nurse's counter, who seemed out of place.
Before he could observe more, the Head Nurse urged him to follow quickly. Shen Yu had no choice but to lead Xie Tu upstairs.
Back in the patient room, Shen Yu held the prescription issued by the Head Nurse and found that these medicines were all for promoting blood circulation, nourishing health, and strengthening the stomach; they didn't seem like medicine to cure any specific illness. With doubts, he rummaged through the medicine cabinet, took out the medicine for Xie Tu according to the prescribed dosage, and then brought it to him.
"Take your medicine, Mr. Xie." Shen Yu noticed that since returning, Xie Tu had just been sitting on the hospital bed, not saying a word, just hugging his legs, his eyes always following Shen Yu's busy figure.
Shen Yu was stared at to the point where he really couldn't take it anymore. Mainly, that gaze was a kind of infatuation, mixed with a hint of resentment, which made him feel inexplicably guilty!
Xie Tu took the medicine and water from Shen Yu's hand and gulped it down.
Shen Yu actually had many things he wanted to ask Xie Tu, but Xie Tu just kept looking at him after taking the medicine. Shen Yu couldn't avoid it, so he had to ask, "Why do you keep staring at me?"
Xie Tu: "You used to..."
"I used to?" Shen Yu was puzzled.
"Never mind." Xie Tu turned his head away.
Shen Yu: ?
"Don't leave me hanging!" Shen Yu pulled the chair next to him and sat on the edge of the bed.
Unexpectedly, Xie Tu pulled the blanket up to cover his head, then said in a muffled voice, "I want to, sleep, don't disturb me."
Shen Yu: .........
The patient is god; what could he say?
Shen Yu had no choice but to stand up, tightly close the window, and then draw the curtains. After confirming that the room was almost tidied, Shen Yu went to make his own bed to sleep.
The two beds were only about three meters apart, with no barrier between them. Shen Yu took off his white lab coat; the shirt underneath outlined his slender and firm waist, and his long, fair neck, shimmering under the dazzling room lights, made him look very alluring.
Shen Yu unbuttoned two buttons of his shirt and his cuffs; his whole person looked lazy and beautiful. Shen Yu felt someone watching him from behind. He turned his head, but only saw Xie Tu curled up in the blanket.
He felt he was overthinking.
He went to turn off the light and lay on his bed. The night was rippling; the lights outside the hospital gate were a bit bright, and the curtains didn't completely block the light, so human figures could still be vaguely seen in the room.
After Shen Yu fell asleep, he didn't know how much time had passed, but it was still not morning, probably still the middle of the night.
Shen Yu had a nonsensical dream and suddenly woke up from it to find himself drenched in sweat. He sat on the bed, calmed down, and instinctively looked towards Xie Tu.
In the dim light, Shen Yu saw no one on the bed. Where was Xie Tu?
Worried that he had misseen, Shen Yu didn't call out to him. He quietly got out of bed, walking barefoot towards the patient's bed.
He reached out and felt the bed; indeed, there was nothing.
"Mr. Xie?" Shen Yu called out, his voice carrying the weariness of just waking up, hoarse yet very magnetic.
His voice echoed in the room, with no one answering.
He intended to turn on the light first, but unexpectedly, before he could even touch the light switch on the wall, he felt a gust of wind brush past his ear, and immediately after, his waist was wrapped by something!
