Chapter 26
The Sis-con Movie Star (14)
Everything began quite normally.
She and her teammates were on their way to a refuge when they unfortunately encountered a zombie tide. Afterward, the members of the squad without superpowers were pushed out to serve as meat shields.
Xie An was one of them.
The sensation of being bitten and torn apart was not pleasant at all, but fortunately, the benefits of the Quick Transmigration Bureau were excellent. Although her system was of the "no reward, no punishment" variety, it still possessed a function to reduce the sensation of pain to a certain degree.
Xie An was bitten by the zombies until her body was mangled. She sprawled on the ground, quietly waiting to be transported out of the plane, listening to the soothing countdown for departure. Xie An thought to herself that after returning, she must go to that generous colleague's house for a delicious meal.
While her thoughts were drifting, a pair of shiny black leather shoes suddenly appeared before her eyes. The shoes were so clean they were completely out of place in the bloody and messy surroundings. Xie An couldn't help but lift her dull eyes to glance at the person.
It was a very handsome man.
Over his black shirt, he wore the pristine white lab coat of a researcher. He had both hands in his pockets, looking down at Xie An with a high-and-mighty posture, yet it made one feel he was meant to be that way.
The bridge of his nose was high and straight, and he wore thin-framed glasses, but his eyes held no emotion whatsoever. The lenses reflected a cold light, and every gesture he made exuded an aura that made it difficult for others to ignore him.
He looked very dangerous.
Xie An silently labeled the man as "dangerous," then lowered her eyes to the ground and continued to play dead.
She had expected the man to leave quickly, but unexpectedly, he suddenly knelt down. His fair hand, clad in a white rubber glove, tilted Xie An's chin up, forcing her to raise her head.
At close range, Xie An finally saw the color of his eyes—a pale grey like ash, both decadent and indifferent. Perhaps because of the glasses, those eyes seemed even more detached.
Xie An didn't know what he wanted to do, but she understood that in this situation, she shouldn't act rashly. The two of them faced each other in silence.
The man seemed to be staring into her eyes merely to observe, carrying a scrutiny as if evaluating a piece of merchandise. Xie An felt a bit of a chill down her spine, but seeing the departure countdown with only three seconds left, she felt at ease.
After all, she was about to die. Dying meant she could leave this plane. No matter how dangerous this man was, he couldn't stop her from leaving—unless he could save her life.
Ha, how could that be possible? He wasn't a god.
When the countdown reached the final second, Xie An's greyish-white eyes lit up. But at that exact moment, the man watching her suddenly moved.
He produced a small syringe from somewhere and stabbed it directly into Xie An's neck. A cold liquid was injected into her bloodstream. Xie An's mind went blank for a moment, and the bright red number "1" in her head suddenly shattered.
The system's warning rang out:
[Warning!]
[Under the influence of an unknown factor, departure from the plane has failed. Please find another opportunity to apply for the departure process.]
Xie An looked at the man in disbelief. She only saw the corner of his lips curl into a tiny arc, and his deep, magnetic voice rang out:
"Being bitten by zombies to this extent, one would either stop breathing within three seconds or mutate into one of their kind."
He seemed to feel he had found an interesting toy. He slowly withdrew the syringe and put it in his pocket. His gloved finger gently stroked the corner of her eye, his pale grey eyes flashing with interest.
"And yet you, after five seconds, still maintain normal human thought."
"It would be a pity for you to die like this."
Xie An felt this guy was a total pervert. She wanted to curse him out, but the liquid that had just been injected made her blood feel as if it were freezing. Her head throbbed with a splitting pain, and she couldn't utter a word, only able to curl up pitifully on the ground.
The man seemed particularly interested in her eyes. He tilted his head slightly, carefully analyzing her emotions. "I saved you. Why are you unhappy?"
Saved my foot! Who asked you to save me!
Xie An felt this guy was a complete lunatic. Not only did she have to endure physical torture, but she was also suffering mental trauma. She almost wanted to crawl on the ground in despair.
Clearly, the anger and dissatisfaction in her eyes displeased the man. The thumb resting at the corner of her eye applied a bit more pressure.
"Keep looking at me with those eyes, and I'll gouge them out."
His tone was as calm as could be, but his fingernail had already begun to press into Xie An's eye socket.
How brutal!
Xie An's greyish-white eyes showed a flash of terror, but as if thinking of something, a hint of expectation flickered in the depths of her gaze.
Although she had completed the plot, she couldn't leave immediately because of this man. According to the regulations of the Quick Transmigration Bureau, if an employee met with an accidental death in a plane, the system would automatically activate the protection mechanism to eject the soul. It was an emergency rescue measure.
If being gouged in the eyes meant she could die, that wouldn't be so bad.
At this time, Xie An was still naive and didn't know how to perfectly hide her emotions. Although it didn't show on her face, the joy in her eyes was seen through by the man.
He raised an eyebrow, stopped his hand movement, and leaned closer to Xie An.
"What are you expecting?"
Xie An was stunned. She didn't understand how he knew the thoughts in her heart even though she hadn't expressed them.
"I'm right, aren't I?"
The man pushed up his glasses, his grey eyes scanning her face. His voice still didn't have much of a rise or fall, but Xie An could hear a faint sense of amusement.
"Let me guess..."
"Are you expecting me to gouge out your eyes, or are you expecting to die once more?"
Having her thoughts read, Xie An's face stiffened slightly. The missions of cannon fodder characters were usually quite simple, and her acting skills were originally enough to deal with most situations. But she had never met someone so perverted and difficult; he had guessed her mind after only a few glances.
The feeling of being seen through made Xie An feel as if she were stripped bare before him, completely losing her sense of security.
The man took in all her tension and panic. The lenses of his glasses flashed with a cold light, and his thin lips parted slightly:
"I guess it's the latter."
"But you seem to have forgotten one thing. Since I could save you when you were at death's door, I can also keep you half-alive even after gouging out your eyes."
Xie An's eyes widened. She had gained a new understanding of this man's level of perversion. She must have forgotten to check the horoscope when she took this mission; otherwise, how could she be so unlucky as to encounter such a sick individual?
She didn't dare imagine the collapse she would suffer if her eyes were gouged out yet she still couldn't die, being locked up to be tortured day and night. Having no other choice, she had to bow her head to this man to keep her eyes.
Xie An's gaze shifted. The man knew she was calculating something again; he was very willing to watch her reaction as if playing with a pet.
Xie An racked her brains for a way to show submission. She tried to squeeze out a few tears but failed, so she had to make the most weak and pitiful face possible. The expression was there, but her voice was extremely dry.
She said, "Don't... don't gouge out my eyes."
There was absolutely no emotion in it; it was all pure acting technique.
A faint smile flashed in the man's grey eyes. True, if he gouged out her eyes now, he wouldn't be able to see such interesting expressions in the future.
"Very well."
