Chapter 2
The Final Resistance
Why?
For over thirty years, she had constantly asked herself this question. Only at this moment did she find the answer. Because she was too weak. From the very first time she was used, she should have resisted. A furious resistance, filled with intense hatred.
Father Feng didn't notice the change in Feng Xin's eyes, continuing to insult her with the dirtiest, most vulgar words. As if not feeling satisfied enough, he grabbed a vase and threw it directly at Feng Xin.
Feng Xin didn't dodge, taking the full impact. The psychological trauma and prolonged fear made her hate him immensely, yet her body remained motionless, only able to passively endure the one-sided abuse. Fragments scattered everywhere, the loud noise was deafening but couldn't summon anyone. Her vision suddenly blurred, blood streamed down her temple, staining half her face, looking terrifying.
Father Feng was finally old. After a bout of hitting and cursing, he was exhausted and slumped onto a chair, his breathing rapid and heavy. After recovering a little, he said with a grim face to Feng Xin: "The Feng family cannot fall. If Jin Shi Hua fails, we must find another way."
"Isn't the third young master of the Wang family always interested in Yan Si? Let's arrange an engagement for them."
Feng Xin, who had been standing frozen in place, heard these words, and a bell seemed to clang in her head. The physical pain was nothing compared to the pain in her heart. The hatred and anger reached their peak, and she suddenly let out a soft laugh.
"That year, to stabilize the family business, you chose to sell your daughter. Now, for the sake of this same family business, you choose to sell your granddaughter."
She laughed, but tears streamed down her cheeks. The fresh blood had stained more than half her face, making her look like a vengeful ghost returned to claim a life. Every word she uttered was as clear as a cry of blood: "That third young master of the Wang family has no capability but is addicted to all sorts of debauchery. It's said that most girls who fall into his hands are tortured beyond recognition. He's not even a fraction of Jin Shi Hua, yet you can say such things!"
Father Feng was enraged by her words, threw the teacup on the table at her, and roared: "She deserves it! That recording pen was clearly placed by her, instigated by someone else. She's truly someone who does little work and causes much trouble. Being able to contribute to the Feng family can be considered atonement! At least she still has a presentable face, and there are still people willing to accept her! I've decided this. Tomorrow, Jin Yan Si will meet with the third young master of the Wang family. I've already negotiated with the Wang family patriarch; the engagement will be in half a month."
These words provoked Feng Xin to the point of red eyes. She could no longer tolerate it. On the table, there was still a fruit plate and a paring knife. All her weakness and grievances erupted completely at this moment. She grabbed the paring knife and plunged it straight into Father Feng's throat.
With force, one stab after another. Hot blood splattered onto her face like the most natural catharsis. Father Feng initially shrieked and cursed, but after his throat was cut, only gurgling sounds escaped, and his resentful eyes grew even more unwilling.
Feng Xin had killed until her eyes were bloodshot. That gaze reminded her of everything she had endured over the years. The knife tip, about to plunge into his throat, suddenly changed direction, stabbing directly into his eyes. She would never have to see those hateful eyes again.
The person beneath her no longer struggled, and the dazzling red continued to gush. Feng Xin collapsed onto the ground, without the remorse of a killer, nor the panic of exposure, only the joy of long-suppressed emotions being released. She lifted her foot and stomped on Father Feng's unclosed eyes, her face emotionless, each heavy stomp continuing until the old man's face was a bloody, indistinct mess under her high heel before she stopped.
The assets of the Feng family and Jin family would all vanish into thin air after this. In other words, Yan Si would receive nothing from the inheritance of these two families. But fortunately, she had long planned for this day. Abroad, she had bought a manor, and the money she had saved all this time was enough for Jin Yan Si to live a peaceful, comfortable life.
After her death, the insurance would also take effect. The old butler who had been with her for so long would take Jin Yan Si away from this tumultuous place, no longer controlled by anyone. Her life had been tragic enough; Jin Yan Si could not follow in her footsteps.
As for Jin Shi Hua, from the day he was hospitalized, she had arranged for someone to inject him with poison. Perhaps by now, he had already died filled with hatred? As Feng Xin thought of this, she received a signal from the other party reporting mission completion. Along with it was a short video: Jin Shi Hua was covered with a white sheet, and Jin Yan Si stood beside him, weeping mournfully.
Everything progressed much more smoothly than she had anticipated, as if someone was secretly pushing things along, or perhaps it was because those two had committed too many sins, and this was merely delayed retribution. Only her daughter suffered. The old butler was by Jin Yan Si's side; she completely trusted his loyalty, so she could finally breathe a sigh of relief. She tremblingly closed her phone, a resolute glint flashing in her eyes.
Jin Yan Si should not have a murderer for a mother. Even she could not become a stain on her daughter's life. Feng Xin wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, swallowed two bottles of sleeping pills, then took a lighter from the drawer and set fire to the books. She ignored the flames that gradually flared up fiercely, engulfing this bloody and desperate scene, and concealing all her and Father Feng's crimes.
That day, the Jin family and Feng family successively went bankrupt. Jin Shi Hua died after emergency treatment failed. The Feng family mansion also burned fiercely, killing Father Feng and his daughter. Jin Yan Si, who had always possessed a radiant aura and stood in the sunlight, an arrogant Jin Yan Si, experienced the darkest night of her life that day.
On the day of Jin Shi Hua and Feng Xin's funeral, heavy snow fell, and the biting cold made people shiver. Few people came to offer condolences; they offered false comfort but were actually there to watch the show. Jin Yan Si wore a long black padded coat, her golden hair covered with a thin layer of snow. She seemed not to hear the mocking and sarcastic remarks around her, only lowering her eyes to stare at the two tombstones. Her pale face under the white snow looked lifeless.
Seeing her like a block of wood, everyone lost interest and left one by one. The old butler rushed over to shield her with an umbrella, his aged face showing sorrow. The Shi family was one of the few clans that didn't kick someone when they were down. They stood with Jin Yan Si in the snow for a long time, and only when they saw her slowly stand up, leaning on the butler, did they approach.
"The storm hasn't subsided yet, which is extremely disadvantageous for you. Your mother's arrangements are for the best; go study abroad. In three days, the enrollment procedures will be complete." Father Shi sighed, speaking to Jin Yan Si with the gentle demeanor of an elder. "In these three days, you may need to sign or verify documents, so you can't avoid going to school. The rumors in Ning Hai..."
He paused, looking at Shi Qiao Qiao beside him. Although Shi Qiao Qiao had initially approached Jin Yan Si at her father's behest, after a long period of living together, she had developed genuine feelings. Seeing her friend so haggard at this moment, her heart couldn't help but ache.
