Chapter 29
A Childhood Sweetheart Cannot Compare to a Heavenly Arrival
Xie An put down her charging phone, pulled out the silently still "black orb," and smiled faintly: "I remember my phone was still fully charged when I left the house?"
The black orb knew it was in the wrong and dared not resist, letting Xie An knead it. Its spherical surface was distorted into wavy, bumpy lines.
[I don't know, maybe the phone has a serious power leak?]
Xie An looked at its scattered black mist, full of guilt, and squeezed her fingers even tighter, her smile growing brighter. Still daring to argue at this point? She didn't ask further, stuffed the black orb into a small glass bottle, corked it, and then hung it on the curtain rod with a woolen string.
The small bottle, only the size of a thumb, was filled by the black orb, which was half the size of a fist, making the black mist inside as dense as ink. Little Black, from its spherical form, dissipated into black mist, tightly compressed in the narrow space, feeling extremely stifled. But what stifled it more was that after hanging it up, Xie An calmly lay on the sofa and continued watching her movie.
Cruel. Truly too cruel.
Xie An opened the video app and found that her viewing history had several new movies, and the one she was watching at noon had automatically played several more episodes. She didn't need to ask to guess the reason. So, this useless black orb actually had the ability to infiltrate electronic devices? What a pleasant surprise.
Xie An curled her lips, glanced at the black bottle by the window, and teased, "I didn't expect you to have potential as a hacker."
Seeing that it had been exposed, Little Black was too lazy to argue. The important thing was that Xie An had just started a new movie, and it found a few overheard lines very interesting. It wanted to watch! So, it immediately changed its attitude to curry favor with her.
[Of course, I can hack into all sorts of electronic devices, just tell me what you need!] Its tone was extremely fawning.
Xie An was satisfied, smiling as she released Little Black, allowing it to sit beside her and watch the movie. Little Black obediently perched on her arm, its eyes glued to the screen, occasionally turning to comment on the melodramatic plotlines. Xie An yawned, her expression lazy, occasionally giving perfunctory replies, but Little Black remained undeterred.
Little Black watched with increasing enthusiasm, while Xie An grew sleepier and sleepier, eventually falling asleep on the sofa. The phone was about to fall onto her face when a black arm caught it and placed it steadily on the table. Little Black turned down the volume, intending to continue watching, but after a few minutes, it lost interest. How strange, it had been so interesting watching with Xie An just now.
It turned its head to look at Xie An, who was sleeping soundly. She lay on her side, curled up like a small cat, her breathing light, faint dark circles under her eyes. Little Black flew over, separating a small strand of black mist to gently touch the dark circles. The dark marks on her fair skin looked so unsightly. It secretly thought that it should urge her to rest more in the future.
Little Black draped a thin blanket over Xie An, then perched by her ear, silently gazing at her. Xie An, when asleep, no longer had her usual lively demeanor but became quiet and serene. Seeing her like this, Little Black also felt sleepy. It found a comfortable spot beside her and drifted off to sleep.
Xie An woke up after a good night's sleep, seeing Little Black still sleeping beside her. She hadn't expected the black orb to need sleep; it was truly human-like. She stretched, realizing she was covered by a blanket, her eyebrows slightly raised. It seemed this "little charcoal ball" wasn't raised in vain.
It was 6:30, time for dinner. The doorbell rang. Xie An slowly drank half a glass of warm water before going to open the door. Seeing Kang Cheng standing outside, she leaned languidly against the door, her voice still tinged with sleepiness: "Let's go."
Xie An's hair was slightly disheveled, making her look like a cute lazy cat. Kang Cheng looked at her, his fingers curling slightly, intending to pat her head as he used to, but in the end, he restrained himself.
Dinner proceeded in silence. Mother Kang occasionally asked Xie An questions, which she answered sincerely. Kang Cheng remained quiet, carefully observing Xie An, trying to imprint her image in his mind. He knew she didn't want to see him, so he could only seize these brief moments to look at her.
Mother Kang noticed her son's unusual behavior. Although Kang Cheng said he had wronged Xie An, he didn't specify what. She thought it might be because he was too focused on the girl in his group and neglected Xie An. She still treated Xie An well, but the intimacy she once shared, as if with a future daughter-in-law, had faded somewhat after Xie An hit Kang Cheng last time.
Seeing that Kang Cheng hadn't eaten much, Mother Kang came up with an idea to reconcile them. She smiled and said, "An An, A Cheng's left arm still hurts. Can you get him a piece of sparerib?"
Xie An glanced at Kang Cheng's bandaged arm, secretly thinking "serves him right," but still obediently picked the smallest piece and put it in his bowl. Kang Cheng was overjoyed, his eyes filled with hope, looking at her like a small puppy waiting to be fed. But Xie An didn't spare him another glance.
After dinner, Xie An was about to leave when Kang Cheng called her back. He handed her a tube of ointment, his voice trembling: "Three times a day." Xie An calmly accepted it; the ointment tube was still warm from his body heat.
As soon as she stepped out the door, Tang Xing Yu video-called, showing off a packaged cake: "I forgot to give you this. Can you come down and get it now?"
Xie An felt a headache coming on. She had already refused Tang Xing Yu once, but he was persistent. She went downstairs and saw Tang Xing Yu happily running towards her. She said calmly, "I don't need it."
Tang Xing Yu was stunned: "Why?"
Xie An looked him straight in the eyes, her voice calm but firm: "Don't like me anymore. We can't be together."
She not only refused the cake but also his sincere feelings.
