The News Spreads

Yu Li's eyes lit up. Seeing that he didn't press the matter, she breathed a sigh of relief, happily blew out the oil lamp, and climbed back into bed to sleep.

She felt that Fu Wenxiao was truly a good person. He had certainly discovered her actions while she was dreaming, and had even been awakened by them, yet he said nothing and didn't throw her out. What a good man!

Good people should live long lives. She would do her best to care for him so he wouldn't easily draw his last breath.

Carrying this joy in her heart, Yu Li quickly fell into a deep sleep.

The night passed peacefully without incident. When she woke up, the sky was just beginning to lighten.

Yu Li sat up, her mind still groggy. It took her a moment to fully wake up.

Although several days had passed, her body was still not entirely comfortable.

In the past, she had never been sick. Genetic soldiers didn't get sick; they only got injured. Therefore, she didn't understand what was wrong with her current body, whether she was truly ill, and she had no experience dealing with such a thing.

However, since the ailment wasn't anything serious, Yu Li chose to endure it.

A new day had arrived. Thinking of the upcoming breakfast, she was filled with anticipation, and her mood grew cheerful. She even ignored some of the discomfort in her body.

After dressing neatly, Yu Li turned to look at the man on the bed. Seeing that he was still asleep, she quietly opened the door and went outside.

Once she left the room, Fu Wenxiao opened his eyes. A faint flush appeared on his pale face, and his eyes held a mix of embarrassment and annoyance.

Fu Wenxiao hadn't expected that the first thing he would see upon opening his eyes was her changing her clothes.

Although it wasn't intentional, and he had closed his eyes in time, his eyesight was too sharp, making it impossible not to see a little... Even though her body was thin and there wasn't much to look at, she was still a young lady, and his actions were truly improper...

...

Qingshi Village was located on the outskirts of Shanping County, Qing'an Prefecture. At noon, a physician from the county town arrived at the Fu home to examine him.

Not long after, the news of Fu Wenxiao waking up spread.

The villagers were all astonished. They hadn't expected that marrying to ward off ill luck would actually work, bringing Fu Wenxiao back to consciousness.

When the physician left the Fu home, several villagers ran into him and asked about Fu Wenxiao's condition.

The physician only replied briefly that the young master of the Fu family needed proper rest and recuperation, saying nothing more.

The villagers immediately understood that although Fu Wenxiao had woken up, it didn't mean his condition had significantly improved. He was still a frail man, and no one knew when he might face danger again.

However, the villagers had different interpretations of this marriage to ward off ill luck.

"So marrying to ward off ill luck is actually that effective. Last time, the physician told Aunt Chu to prepare for his funeral, but this time he told the Fu family's young master to rest. It seems he will be fine for now."

"Sigh, I heard Aunt Chu agreed to marry Li-niang of the Yu family's Second Branch to the Fu family's young master because a fortune teller once read her fate. They said she is a person of great fortune, a lucky star, and whoever marries her will turn misfortune into blessings and escape disasters..."

Hearing this, the surrounding people were all amazed.

Everyone lived in the same village and knew each other well. If Yu Li were truly a lucky star, the Yu family would have long treated her like a treasure instead of making her work hard like a maid every day.

Everyone looked skeptically at the person who had just spoken.

"You don't believe it?!" the person continued. "I heard it from Aunt Chu herself, and she heard it from Old Madame Yu. If it weren't true, why would she be willing to spend twenty taels of silver as a bride price to marry Li-niang of the Yu family's Second Branch?"

Hearing Old Madame Yu mentioned, the villagers muttered to themselves.

They had never heard of Yu Li's fate being read by a fortune teller; it sounded like a lie made up to deceive people.
