Chapter 49
Smashing the Pillar, Enjoying a Good Meal
As the saying goes: the weak fear the strong, the strong fear the fierce, and the fierce fear the mad. In their eyes, Yu Li was now a madwoman, a person of pure violence and fury.
They watched as Yu Li grabbed a long wooden bench and abruptly hurled it at a nearby house pillar. The bench shattered into pieces with a deafening crash. At the same time, the pillar in everyone's sight was snapped in half by the impact.
Everyone was stunned. "Snapped? Did it really snap?"
The pillar had indeed been broken right before their eyes, striking sheer terror into their hearts.
Before they could even comprehend what the collapsing sound outside had been, they witnessed Yu Li break a pillar inside the main hall right in front of them.
After Yu Li finished doing this, the main hall fell into an even deeper silence than before, everyone as quiet as cicadas in winter.
Particularly Old Master Yu, who was being stared down by Yu Li; cold sweat broke out on his dark, aged face. In that moment, he felt as if his granddaughter wanted to kill him.
He had never known that the gaze of a young girl could be so terrifying.
Having done this, the murderous intent in Yu Li's heart finally subsided slightly, though her expression remained cold.
She said expressionlessly, "I'll let you off this time. If you dare to provoke me again, I will tear your entire house down!"
Everyone: "..."
After her outburst, Yu Li acted as if nothing had happened. She set the table she had just overturned back upright and called her parents and younger sisters, "Come, let's eat!"
"..."
Under such circumstances, who could possibly swallow any food?
Yu Lao Er and his wife sat down, trembling with fear. Although Yu Li was their daughter, her actions just now had not only terrified Old Master Yu but had also deeply shaken this couple.
The couple stammered, wanting to say something but not knowing how to begin, forced to swallow their words in extreme discomfort.
Fortunately, Yu Jin reacted quickly, hastily pulling her two younger sisters to the dining table.
The house fell into silence. Yu Li did not care what the others were doing; she focused solely on eating her meal.
However, seeing the bits of vegetables and soup scattered across the floor, she couldn't help but feel a pang of regret. Even though it was just green vegetables boiled in water without a pinch of salt, she still found them delicious because they were natural, uncontaminated, and completely pure.
Having finished the rice in her bowl, Yu Li brought over the bowl of scorched rice.
She scooped half of it for herself and divided the rest among her three younger sisters. She did not give any to Yu Lao Er and his wife, as the two were still holding their bowls in a daze, not having touched a single piece of cured meat or grain of rice.
They looked utterly shell-shocked.
Yu Li ignored them, turning to Old Master Yu and saying, "In the past, whenever there was anything good, you all ate first, while our Second Branch didn't even get soup to drink, only able to lick the leftover flavors. Today, the rice and cured meat were brought back by me, so it is only natural that the Second Branch eats a bit more, is it not?"
Her question was extremely polite.
The man she questioned wanted to speak but dared not, his mouth twitching, his face flushing red from choked rage.
They basically dared not move, not even daring to breathe too loudly. They feared that if Yu Li went mad again and hurled a bench straight at them, their flesh-and-blood bodies would likely lose their lives on the spot.
Even Old Master Yu, who had always taken pride in his authority, was choked up, not knowing how to react.
Yu Li ate very quickly, finishing the cured meat and then the scorched rice, before standing up to grab a bowl to scoop some bean porridge.
The bean porridge was in the pot, placed on the kitchen stove nearby. When the meal was first served, there was only a basin of cabbage soup and a plate of shredded pickled vegetables on the table.
Yu Li felt it was a pity to waste food, but some things had to be done, otherwise they would think she was an easy target.
