Chapter 9
Eldest Sister's Wrath
Old Master Yu's face twitched, feeling deeply provoked.
He suddenly stood up. Under the excited gazes of Old Madam Yu and the Third Branch, he grabbed a carrying pole leaning against the corner of the wall and prepared to strike Yu Li.
Although the Old Master was advanced in years, he was still a farmer accustomed to heavy labor. With his strength, a single blow from the carrying pole could cripple someone.
In Old Master Yu's heart, beating an unfilial granddaughter like Yu Li to death was exactly what needed to be done.
His movement was so swift that Yu Lao Er and his wife shrieked in terror.
"Eldest Sister!" Yu Jin and her two sisters also cried out.
Yu Li's eyes were cold as ice, a surge of murderous intent rising in her heart. She swiftly placed her bowl of rice on the bench, snatched the carrying pole from the Old Master's hands, and threw it forcefully toward the main hall door.
A resounding crash echoed outside, as if something had just collapsed.
The rumbling sound shook the entire room, leaving everyone inside panicked and utterly terrified.
They did not know whether they were more terrified because Yu Li dared to show disrespect to the Old Master, or because of the massive noise outside.
In the blink of an eye, Yu Li had snatched the carrying pole from the Old Master's hand, spun around, and hurled it out the main hall door. Her movements were fluid and swift, immediately followed by the terrifying sound of collapse.
The entire main hall suddenly fell into absolute silence. Even Madam Wang's shrieks and Yu Lao San's shouting ceased instantly. Yu Jingyi did not dare to cry anymore. Everyone stared blankly at Yu Li as if they were looking at a completely different person.
Old Master Yu was also stunned, unable to believe his eyes.
He stared at her in astonishment, unable to comprehend how his granddaughter could have snatched the carrying pole from his grip.
Though he was old, he was still a robust farmer whose strength should not have been so easily overpowered by a slender girl like her.
Although he had heard rumors that his granddaughter possessed great strength, capable of carrying water and hauling millet, he had never expected her to be this powerful.
In contrast to everyone's shock, Yu Li was currently consumed by immense fury, a surge of resentment boiling in her chest.
She felt that this resentment did not entirely belong to her, but was rather the residual consciousness of this body, triggered by the Old Master's cruelty.
He did not view her as his granddaughter, but only wished to beat and destroy her.
This overwhelmed "her" with extreme grief, indignation, and an unspeakable pain.
In truth, the one in the Yu family who valued sons over daughters was not Old Madam Yu, but Old Master Yu himself.
He was a typical patriarch, firmly believing that only sons and grandsons could carry on the family lineage, while daughters and granddaughters were merely commodities to be married off, no longer belonging to the family.
His influence caused the Old Madam to also look down on daughters and granddaughters, gradually viewing them as goods that could be sold at any moment.
Yu Li's resentment rose uncontrollably.
Yu Li glared at Old Master Yu, and suddenly lifted a long wooden bench. This was a common type of long bench in the countryside, about a meter long with four legs, simply handcrafted, and sturdy enough to seat four or five people.
Seeing her lift the bench, everyone felt a wave of fear and instinctively backed away, terrified that she might hurl it at them.
Even Yu Lao San, who was sitting on the ground holding his child, shifted backward slightly. Madam Wang also trembled as she gripped his arm, her mouth muttering soundlessly, while the two brothers Yu Jingzhong and Yu Jingxin stood as if facing a grave threat.
Now, in everyone's eyes, Yu Li was no longer the weak, submissive girl of the Second Branch, but had transformed into someone who dared to overturn tables and even openly defy the Old Master.
