Chapter 36
Lao Lao
I shouted until my throat was dry, but my grandfather still did not respond.
Su Er continued toward the door of the inn. Although she was just a girl, no matter what I did, I couldn't stop her.
The sound of gongs and drums grew more urgent. Especially in the silence of the night, it sounded even more piercing.
Su Er shoved me hard, and then her body, light as paper, drifted toward the door. I could no longer hold her back, so I quickly knocked on my grandfather's door.
My grandfather opened the door. Before he could react, I said urgently, "Su Er... Su Er has been taken by the ghost wedding procession, Grandfather!"
Hearing this, my grandfather stared at me and asked, "Taken when?"
"Just now," I replied, panting.
My grandfather stepped inside to grab his bag, then went with me to find Su Er. We followed the sound of the gongs and drums into a forest. The area was surrounded by graves, creating an extremely eerie atmosphere.
I pointed ahead and shouted, "It's that sedan!"
Four people were carrying the sedan, wearing clothes woven from grass, very much like the rain gear used by country folk. Everything was similar to the last time, with only one difference: leading the way were two very old-looking people holding staffs topped with terrifying human skulls.
I was terrified that something would happen to Su Er, so I rushed forward. My grandfather held me back and whispered, "Don't act rashly."
I felt as if I were sitting on a bed of hot coals, unable to remain still. Suddenly, something brushed past us. It happened in the span of just a few seconds. When I looked closely, I realized that the object that had just brushed past was a sedan. How could such a heavy sedan fly through the air?
I let out a loud cry, almost collapsing to the ground, but fortunately, my grandfather caught me in time.
It seemed the palanquin bearers noticed something, as they stopped to look around. My grandfather took this opportunity to slap a Qi-Restricting Talisman onto both of us. Then, grabbing my hand, he glided through the air. The sensation was hard to describe, like being an immortal from legends.
We landed on top of the sedan, and the ghost bearers didn't notice us at all, continuing on their way. As we approached an ancient tree, my grandfather grabbed my collar and pulled me down, helping me avoid a large branch.
I thought that if they didn't notice us, we could easily rescue Su Er. However, at this moment, a female ghost wearing a bridal gown appeared in the air. This figure... wasn't it Wu Ming?
She threw the umbrella in her hand toward the leading sedan.
Boom...
In an instant, the sedan was shattered into pieces. The bride inside used her feet to stomp hard on the ground, and the shattered pieces of the sedan froze in mid-air.
Wu Ming sneered, her gaze provocative: "What? Still planning to grow stronger to overthrow the master?"
Only now did I see clearly that the bride was Sister Yin Xiang. She extended her hands, and in an instant, all the frozen pieces fell to the ground. This kind of magic power was incredibly strong.
Yin Xiang laughed aloud: "Do I need to report everything I do to you? If you know what's good for you, get out of my way. Otherwise, not even a single fragment of your soul will remain!"
At this moment, a faint blue mist began to radiate from Yin Xiang's body.
Wu Ming looked at the arrogant person before her: "Arrogant. Let's see what capability you have."
With that, Wu Ming suddenly attacked. She waved her hand, and a red mist shot from her sleeve toward Yin Xiang. Yin Xiang reacted quickly, using her blue mist to block the attack, but she didn't expect Wu Ming's move to be a feint; her real intent was a talisman hidden within the mist. Seeing the talisman floating before her eyes, Yin Xiang had no time to complain, only glaring at Wu Ming with a murderous gaze.
The blue mist suddenly escaped from Yin Xiang's body, appearing elsewhere. Sister Yin Xiang's body fell slowly like a kite with a broken string. Only then did I realize that Yin Xiang had been possessed by a ghost. She was so gentle; how could she be allied with them?
My grandfather leaned close to my ear and whispered, "What on earth did Su Er and Yin Xiang encounter?"
As I pondered, my eyes followed the blue mist, and I saw a familiar face: "It's him."
"Him?"
I turned to my grandfather and said urgently, pointing at the old Daoist—no, the old ghost: "The Old Ghost who disguised himself as a Daoist and gave Su Er and Sister Yin Xiang two red envelopes, saying they would protect them."
My grandfather slapped his thigh and sighed: "As expected, accepting the red envelope means accepting to become the bride."
Before I could reply, my grandfather continued, "Quick, let's rescue Su Er and Yin Xiang while they are distracted."
My grandfather and I began to move. Not only did I recognize the blue mist, but the ghosts did too, kneeling on the ground: "Lao Lao..."
At this moment, they gathered around the blue mist, completely ignoring the bride in the sedan. I stepped into the sedan to carry Su Er on my back, while my grandfather approached to support Yin Xiang. Because we were using the Qi-Restricting Talismans, they couldn't detect us for the time being.
Just as we were about to leave, a powerful gust of wind knocked us to the ground. Unexpectedly, Wu Ming and the one called Lao Lao had discovered us so quickly.
Lao Lao craned his neck to look at me, then let out a wild, terrifying laugh: "I didn't expect you to deliver yourself to me, Seven Kills Child... haha... haha... I let you live a few more days, yet you didn't cherish it. Wu Ming, I have no interest in fighting you today."
Wu Ming sneered disdainfully at us: "Delivering yourselves to death."
Lao Lao spoke again: "Help me capture them."
Wu Ming closed her umbrella and nodded in agreement: "Capturing them is also my duty."
As soon as she finished speaking, they rushed at us like hungry ghosts. My grandfather managed to pull me back just in time to avoid Wu Ming's claws.
Yin Xiang and Su Er were also awakened. Su Er looked at me in confusion, wanting to ask questions, but I stopped her. Sister Yin Xiang was very agile; seeing Wu Ming rushing over, she did a few backflips to retreat.
Zhou Yao also suddenly appeared. He supported Sister Yin Xiang with one hand while resisting Wu Ming with the other.
Seeing Zhou Yao, Wu Ming let out a cold laugh: "You have finally come."
Zhou Yao looked at her and said, "Wu Ming, let me explain."
Wu Ming waved her hand, and a powerful gust of wind knocked Zhou Yao down: "Save your breath! I swore that the day we met again would be the day of your death."
Zhou Yao looked at her with a heartbroken expression, his heart aching: "Why? Why after all these years are you still unwilling to give me a chance to explain?"
Seeing that Wu Ming was about to waver, Lao Lao said aloud, "Wu Ming, don't waste your words on him. Look at him; he claims he wants to explain, yet he is still holding another woman."
Wu Ming's eyes suddenly filled with killing intent, and she charged directly at Zhou Yao. He quickly pulled Yin Xiang back. As they retreated, Wu Ming pressed her attack. When they hit a tree, Zhou Yao leaped up to avoid her claws.
Seeing that they had avoided her, Wu Ming changed direction. Fortunately, Sister Yin Xiang managed to block one of Wu Ming's strikes, otherwise they wouldn't have escaped so easily.
Wu Ming shouted in anger, "You wench, seducing my man, and now you want to join forces with outsiders to oppose the master?"
Sister Yin Xiang brushed off Wu Ming's hand and replied with a cold laugh, "Ha ha ha, Wu Ming, you are the cheap one for accepting him as your master, not me! If you hadn't threatened me back then, why would I have helped such evil people?"
Wu Ming gritted her teeth, her expression looking as though she wanted to eat her opponent alive.
